Since our last update given at the end of last year, the work of the Project group continues along with that of the architect , engineer and quantity surveyor. Monthly meetings are being held to ensure that their preparatory investigations remain up to speed. It is hoped tenders for the main phase of the restoration will go out to potential contractors in April and that we should have their responses by mid-June.
The serious deterioration of the building is now without question. It is perfectly clear from the findings of our professional advisers that unless this essential work is carried out as soon as possible, the Quire cannot return to public use. With this in mind, our fundraising group have been very active indeed in identifying possible sources of funding – and not just throughout the United Kingdom but in Canada and the United States of America too.
A public Appeal will be launched towards the end of April. Members of the congregation will receive literature explaining why this work is so vital and how contributions to the Restoration Appeal can be made.
With the generous cooperation of South Lanarkshire Council, a short Appeal video has been produced and can be viewed on YouTube or via the church’s own website
